Airspeed Ambassador 2 G-ALZO

This airframe is the sole survivor of a production run of 23 Ambassadors, built specifically for BEA, who flew them under the name of "Elizabethans".

This particular aircraft was delivered to BEA in 1952 and it remained with them until it was sold to the Royal Jordanian Air Force in 1960. It was used for VIP flights flying from its base in Amman.

In 1963 it was sold to Dan-Air who operated it as both a passenger and freight carrier, a modification carried out just after it was purchased by Dan Air was the fitting of a freight door.

On the 28th of October 1971 it flew from Jersey to Gatwick and into retirement. This was the last Dan Air flight of an Ambassador and the airframe was taken to the Dan Air base at Lasham for storage. It remained there until 1986 when it was transported by road to Duxford.
